The Pittsburgh Steelers needed to make a move after the entire Antonio Brown situation. They could not lose a player of his magnitude without bringing in some extra help.

Yes, JuJu Smith-Schuster is an absolute star, but it wouldn't hurt to have some more help.

That's where Donte Moncrief came into play. Moncrief has had a solid career and was coming off a very strong year with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2018.

Due to that, the Steelers felt they could trust him as a steady hand in the offense. Someone to take a little extra pressure of Smith-Schuster. So they signed him to a two-year deal worth $9-million. That did have an out after one year though, and they took it.

Moncrief still got $5-million for just playing five games. The worst part about that though, is the five games played were higher than his reception total. In those games, Moncrief finished with just four receptions for 18 yards.

It's pretty safe to say that the short stint was very disappointing. Moncrief and the Steelers simply never clicked.

It also does not help the situation that the Steelers are 3-4 on the year. Pittsburgh is also dealing with the fact that star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been out since Week 1.

To be frank, things have not been going all that well for the Steelers. Due to that, Moncrief's struggles were magnified. They brought in the veteran to make things easier on the offense and he couldn't do that.

However, Moncrief is still a very good wide receiver. He's a reliable target and has proven that throughout his entire six-year career. A bad stretch of games with the Steelers likely won't scare teams away from him for too long. Expect someone to sign the veteran sooner, rather than later.
