Kevin Greene, one of the greatest pass rushers in NFL history with the Pittsburgh Steelers and multiple other teams, has died at the age of 58.
The Auburn Wire reported the news. No cause of death was cited.
Kevin Greene was drafted in the fifth round by the Los Angeles Rams in 1985, and played for five teams from 1985-1999. He won Defensive Player of the Year honors in 1996 and was selected to five Pro Bowls and three All-Pro First-Teams.
Kevin Greene played for the Rams (1985-92), Pittsburgh Steelers (1993-95), Carolina Panthers (1996, 1998-99), and the San Francisco 49ers (1997).
He led the NFL in sacks twice (1994, 1996), and was named to the 1990s All-Decade Team. Kevin Greene recorded a career-high 16.5 in 1988 and 1989.
Over his 15-year career, Kevin Greene racked up more sacks (160) than all but two players in NFL history, trailing Bruce Smith and Reggie White.
Kevin Greene was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2016.
Before his illustrious pro career, Kevin Greene starred for the Auburn Tigers. After initially walking on to the squad, he soon became the most dominant defensive force in college football. In 1984, as a senior, Greene led the SEC in sacks (11), winning SEC Player of the Year and the Zeke Smith award, given to the nation's top defensive player.
Article Continues BelowAs an outside linebacker coach for the Green Bay Packers, Greene was a part of a Super Bowl winning team of 2011. He served the same role under Todd Bowles for the New York Jets in 2017.
John Kuhn, who played for the Packers while Greene was on the coaching staff, was one of many folks around the football world to pay tribute to Greene and mourn his loss soon after the news came in on Monday.

Kevin Greene was a native of Schenectady, N.Y., who attended Granite City South High School in Illinois. RIP.
