It’s been a full month since Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier suffered a severe spinal injury during a Monday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The road to recovery was always going to be wrong, but according to his father, Shazier seems to be progressing.

In an appearance on WPXI, Vernon Shazier disclosed some encouraging news with regards to his son’s status, saying that Ryan has regained feeling in his legs. He would not say, however, whether Ryan can now walk.

“He's much better,” Vernon said, “but we've agreed to keep his progress private until he's ready to share where he's at.”

Ryan spent quite some time at a Cincinnati hospital after sustaining his injury before being transported back to Pittsburgh for surgery. He has watched a couple of Steelers practices recently and was even in a suite at Heinz Field when Pittsburgh hosted the Cleveland Browns last Sunday

It’s clear that if Ryan plays football again, it will not happen anytime soon. Still, Vernon, a pastor at the Mount Bethel Ministries in Florida, has full confidence that his Pro Bowl son will one day get back on the field and make tackles again.

“I Shalieve,” Vernon said. “I Shalieve.”
