While T.J. Watt helps the Pittsburgh Steelers chase down a playoff berth, he will also be chasing individual glory. The two-time All-Pro is 1.5 sacks away from breaking Michael Strahan's single-season record.

When addressing the chance he has at making history, Watt somberly admitted that this season may be the only shot he has at it. Per the Associated Press:

“I only get one chance at this,” said Watt, who is the first player in franchise history to be named team MVP in three consecutive seasons. “You only get to play for so long. It has consumed a lot of my life and I’m completely OK with that. The people around me truly push me and understand my obsession with this game and wanting to be the best.”

Strahan set the record of 22.5 sacks in a season in 2001 with the New York Giants. Although the NFL extending the regular season by a game gives current pass rushers an advantage over Strahan, Watt won't be able to take advantage of it. Pittsburgh's superstar missed two games this season, so he will end up playing one fewer contest than Strahan did in his record-breaking season.

Watt is a hugely valuable piece of the Steelers' defense. Head coach Mike Tomlin called his contributions to the team immeasurable. With Ben Roethlisberger's time in the NFL winding down, Watt and the defense will likely be inspired to help their captain play in one more playoff game.

Pittsburgh will have to defeat the Baltimore Ravens in Week 18 to keep their odds at clinching a Wild Card spot alive. They will need help from other teams in order to secure a playoff spot.
