Stephen Curry was slated to wear an unusual sleeve in his right arm to help with elbow bursitis that had developed some swelling after falling on it during a loose ball chase in the Western Conference Finals.

Following a slow shooting start to a 113-91 Game 1 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals on Thursday, the Golden State Warriors point guard was asked why he mysteriously ditched his new accessory so quickly.

“Lowkey, I've always wanted to be like Allen Iverson,” Curry joked to reporters. “And that was the only way I can really come close, but it just wasn't feeling right and it just kind of a split decision and just whatever.”

“It's an accessory, it doesn't really matter. You just keep playing.”

Taking off his arm sleeve was likely the best decision — going from a 2-of-5 start to the game, to knocking down his next two shots and finishing a crisp 11-of-22 from the field and 6-of-11 from long-range.

Curry's 28 points, 10 assists, and three steals played a perfect complement to Kevin Durant‘s game-high 38 points, bringing flashback of The Answer with his marionette-like drives to the basket and antics off the dribble.

Not everybody can be Iverson, but Curry has made a decent name for himself during his eight-year career, as A.I. once said referring to Curry:

“That light-skinned dude… I thought I was a serial killer, this dude is unreal.”
