Earlier this week, the Golden State Warriors added another piece to their puzzle with the addition of guard Nick Young on a one-year, $5.2 million deal.

Since the announcement of the move, there was some curiosity behind how the recruitment went down to add Young to the mix. According to Kevin Jones of KNBR, aside from Warriors players reaching out to Young, head coach Steve Kerr had spoken to Los Angeles Lakers head coach and former Dubs' assistant coach Luke Walton, about the 32-year-old.

The fact that Walton spoke highly of Young is a strong indication of how much he improved last season on the court. Prior to that, he had been on real shaky ground with the Lakers, who had reportedly attempted to trade him on numerous occasions to no avail.

Walton took a huge chance on him last season by inserting Young into the starting lineup, and he proved to be one of their most consistent players despite the team's consistent struggles. Young is coming off a productive campaign that essentially reignited his career, averaging 13.2 points on 43.0 percent shooting from the field and 40.4 percent from 3-point range.

He did display improvement on the defensive end at various points throughout the year, which could help him earn a consistent role off the bench with the Warriors next season. Kerr reaching out to Walton about Young shows how much interest they had in adding him to the team.
