The Connecticut Sun take on the Washington Mystics. Our WNBA odds series has our Sun Mystics prediction, odds, and pick. Find out how to watch Sun Mystics.

The Connecticut Sun have run into a little bit of turbulence this season. They have beaten all the teams they are supposed to beat. They haven't yet lost a game they should have won. However, when they go up against similarly talented teams — one could argue slightly more talented teams — they aren't winning a majority of the time. They did beat the Minnesota Lynx by one point in overtime earlier this season, but they lost to the New York Liberty at home. More recently, on a Western road swing, they lost to both the Las Vegas Aces and Seattle Storm. Connecticut did not have enough offense to win either game against two of the better teams in the West. This could easily and reasonably be seen as the laws of averages. Every team is going to have a slump or drought at some point in a long season, and that's true. However, the Sun do need to show that they can handle the top tier of the WNBA, not just the middle or lower tiers. Losing to the Aces is one thing; Vegas has Chelsea Gray back on the floor in the backcourt and looks like a championship-level team right now. When the Sun lost in Sin City, it seemed like the logical outcome. However, the Sun then went to Seattle on Sunday to face the Storm, a good team but not a great team. That was a game a lot of WNBA watchers were interested in. Could the Sun bounce back from a loss and not allow one game to bleed into the next one? The Sun played hard, but their offense remained inadquate in a loss to the Storm. Seattle didn't shoot all that well, but Connecticut was unable to take advantage.

With several days off due to the Commissioner's Cup final on Tuesday, the Sun — fresh and rested — get to start the next portion of the WNBA season against a team which is actually on a roll. The Washington Mystics won twice over the weekend against the Dallas Wings and no longer have the league's worst record. (Dallas does.) The Mystics started the season 0-12 but have won four of five to move to 4-13.

Why The Sun Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Sun were in dire need of a break after their difficult Western road trip to Vegas and Seattle. There's no shame in losing those games, but nevertheless, the two losses will make a lot of WNBA analysts downgrade the Sun as title contenders, which is a reasonable reaction to those outcomes. The Sun know they have a lot to prove, and they also know that hammering Washington won't necessarily mean their problems have been solved. However, a good and authoritative performance in this game should begin a process of restoring a good vibe to a locker room which needs to get back on course. Expect Connecticut to play well and win handily.

Why The Mystics Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Mystics have won four of five. This team is beginning to understand how to play better. Washington's offense has more life right now, and the Mystics have become a better second-half team in their recent surge.

Final Sun-Mystics Prediction & Pick

The Sun are better. They're also healthier, with the Mystics not having Brittney Sykes or Karlie Samuelson due to injury. Take the Sun here.
