The fallout from the Suns embarrassing loss to the Mavericks in Game 7 of the Western Conference Semifinals could be more than simply an early postseason exit. Deandre Ayton and Devin Booker are looked upon as the future of this Phoenix squad. But Ayton's future with the Suns is cloudy entering the Suns' offseason.

Phoenix head coach Monty Williams gave the following answer when asked why Ayton's playing time was limited in Game 7.

“It's internal.”

And it wasn't as if Williams was shunning the media following the loss. He provided insightful and well-constructed answers to most other questions in his postgame presser. So there does seem to be something odd brewing between Phoenix and Deandre Ayton.

And it could ultimately impact his future with the Suns. Ayton chose not to speak with the media after the game which also raised some eyebrows. Chris Paul and Devin Booker spoke to the media, so one has to wonder why Ayton wouldn't have as well. It could be a product of frustration. Or it could be nothing. But it undoubtedly has created speculation about his future with the team.

Obviously, Phoenix would like to bring him back. He is a 23-year old center who leads the second tier of top NBA big men behind Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid.

But other teams in the NBA are going to jump at the opportunity to sign the star young center.

NBA on TNT's Kenny Smith made an interesting point in regards to potential interest in Ayton from fellow West contenders. The Suns are expected to be contenders next season. But if a West team were to pry Ayton away from Phoenix, that would not only improve their team but it would also negatively affect Phoenix.

Smith explains the point in full at the 2:18 mark of the following clip.

So don't be surprised if some of the Suns' contenders offer Deandre Ayton the bag this summer.
