With NBA free agency set to officially open on Thursday night, one of the biggest names that teams that have been keeping an eye on is that of Deandre Ayton. The 23-year-old has not been able to secure a new deal with the Phoenix Suns, and at this point, it doesn't sound like he's going to be with the team for very long now.

ESPN's NBA guru Adrian Wojnarowski provided an update on Ayton's situation with the Suns. Woj hinted that Ayton could be on his way out of Phoenix within the next few days:

“I think there's a lot of sign-and-trade options scenarios out there that they'll be able to start working through once we get to Thursday,” Woj said on SportsCenter. “The Suns have had a reluctance to give Deandre Ayton a max contract, but I do believe it's available to him out in the marketplace. Can they find a package of assets back that makes sense for them?”

As Woj said, the Suns do not seem to value Ayton as a max player. For his part, the former first overall pick appears adamant that he deserves a max deal. Both parties are clearly at an impasse and this will likely end with Ayton taking his talents elsewhere.

He will not have a shortage of suitors in free agency, though, with Woj reporting that he believes there are teams out there that are willing to give Ayton the money that he wants. Right now, the Suns seem focused on finding the best package in a potential sign-and-trade deal.
