The Phoenix Suns hold the top pick in the 2018 NBA Draft this month, and it’s been long expected that their choice will come down to either European star Luka Doncic or Arizona Wildcats big man DeAndre Ayton. On Wednesday, the Suns will get their chance to have an exclusive close look at one of them, as they will have Ayton for a solo workout, according to the team’s official website.

Ayton stands 7’1” with a 250-pound frame. Despite his monolithic size, he is mobile, quick on his feet, and could shoot from range. He is someone who could be the answer not only to the Suns’ frontcourt needs but to the franchise’s overall woes as well. With an aging Tyson Chandler and with Alex Len set to become a free agent, having Ayton in the middle is going to be huge for Phoenix.

Ayton is not a lock to be the first one called in the draft, but the Suns could make up their mind that he is their man if they get impressed enough with what Ayton is going to show them on Wednesday.

In one season in Tucson, Ayton averaged 20.1 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks in 35 games. He also shot 61.2 percent from the field and 34.3 percent from deep.

After dropping a monster double-double performance with 32 points and 18 boards in the win over USC in the Pac-12 title game, Ayton struggled a bit in the first round of the national tournament, where he only had 14 points and 13 rebounds in an upset loss at the hands of Buffalo.
