Devin Booker addresses ‘growing relationship’ with Deandre Ayton
For the Phoenix Suns to shock the world and reach the 2020 playoffs, All-Star shooting guard Devin Booker and second-year center Deandre Ayton essentially have to play like superstars in the eight seeding games which are set to start on July 30 at Disney World.
Suns head coach Monty Williams has commented in recent days that Booker and Ayton are talking more than ever on the court. It seems that both youngsters realize the team’s future is in the palm of their hands and they have to be leaders on and off the court for Phoenix to reach the playoffs in the Western Conference.
Booker spoke to Suns reporters on Monday for the first time since the 2019-20 season was suspended in March. Phoenix’s franchise player spoke about his relationship with Ayton.
“It’s a growing relationship that we’re still working on,” Devin Booker said about his rapport with Suns teammate Deandre Ayton, per Dave King of SB Nation.
“We are still young in this league. The dialog is open between us. Me trying to understand him more, and him trying to understand me.”
During his media availability with reporters just a few days before Booker spoke, Ayton said it’s time for him and Booker to “collaborate on our differences and really just make things happen.”
Both Booker and Ayton have never seen playoff basketball before, so they will certainly be motivated to lead the Phoenix franchise on a spirited run at Disney World.
