Suns star Devin Booker is the ‘killer’ others claim to be amid 15-game streak

The Phoenix Suns are quietly making the presence felt once again. Determined to prove that their Finals run last season wasn’t a fluke, the team has rattled off an astonishing 15-game winning streak. Their 16-3 record is just a loss behind the league-leading Golden State Warriors. This hot start is thanks in large part to Devin Booker, who has continued to be a star for the team.

Speaking to the media after the Suns’ 118 – 97 drubbing of the New York Knicks, head coach Monty Williams gave his honest assessment of Devin Booker’s true identity. In Williams’ own words:

“He’s a good player. A lot of guys say they wanna play on this stage, but he [Booker] really does… He likes to kill, that’s who he is.”

While we would’ve loved for Williams to call Devin Booker a “killer”, his overall point still stands. The Suns star has shed his previous tag of being an “empty stats” guy, leading the Suns last season to a Finals berth. This season, he’s been on an absolute tear, averaging around 23 points along with 4.8 assists and 5.5 rebounds. Against the Knicks, Booker was unstoppable, scoring 32 points to lead the Suns to their 15th straight win.

The Suns have faced all sorts of problems to start the season. Contract negotiations with star big man DeAndre Ayton have stalled, and owner Robert Sarver has come under fire for reportedly being a terrible person all around. Despite these issues, Devin Booker, Chris Paul, and the Suns have found a way to keep it all together. If they keep up this stellar play all season, a repeat trip to the Finals becomes an increasingly likely option.
