The Phoenix Suns will kick off the 2018-19 regular season with a match-up against the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night. However, it sounds like the Suns will be without the services of shooting guard Jamal Crawford.

Gina Mizell of The Athletic reported Crawford's updated status after Wednesday's shootaround.

Though news of the deal has already been released, Crawford still hasn't officially signed with the Suns. Until pen is set to ink, and Davon Reed is waived, Crawford won't be able to suit up for the team.

Crawford, now 38 years of age, will be looking to improve an already-talented Suns roster this season. As a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves last year, the savvy veteran racked up averages of 10.3 points on 41.5 percent shooting (33.1 percent from beyond the arc), 2.3 assists, and 1.2 rebounds in 20.7 minutes per outing.

Earlier this week, The Athletic reported that Crawford will receive the veteran's minimum of $2.4 million for the 2018-19 season.

Barring any set-backs, the Suns will be the eighth team that Crawford — the only three-time Sixth Man of the Year in NBA history — has played for over the course of his career. The upcoming season will be his 19th, which is a testament to his longevity in the league.

Though he's 38, Crawford is still capable of lighting up a scoreboard, and the Suns needed another guy like that. He has great ball-handling skills, excellent court vision, and a smooth stroke from the perimeter. It's safe to say he'll see a lot of playing time with his new squad.

Wednesday night's Suns-Mavs game is set to tip inside Talking Stick Resort Arena at 10:30 p.m. EST with ESPN having live broadcast coverage.
