The Phoenix Suns fell to Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2021 NBA Finals but according to JaVale McGee, it would have been a different outcome if he was traded to the Suns instead of the Denver Nuggets prior to the playoffs.

After Phoenix steamrolled the Boston Celtics on Friday night in the desert, the big man made the bold claim. Via Duane Rankin:

Oh boy. That's going to get lots of Bucks fans heated. In all honesty, though, it's unlikely McGee would've been the difference-maker for the Suns. Sure, he's a respectable rebounder and defender, but would he really stop Antetokounmpo? I don't think so.

The Suns simply had no answer for the Greek Freak in the NBA Finals as he averaged 35.2 points and 13.2 boards in six games. As for McGee, he's actually been a nice addition to Phoenix this season, putting up 10.5 points per game to go along with 7.5 rebounds.

Frankly, the Suns are looking like more of a threat to win a title than the Bucks right now. Monty Williams' squad just went on an 18-game winning streak and possesses the best record in the NBA alongside the Warriors at 21-4.

McGee meanwhile had a big game against the C's, dropping 21 points in 26 minutes of action. Perhaps that's why he made these remarks. The Suns center was evidently feeling himself. Nevertheless, Phoenix is happy to have him on their roster now.
