Phoenix Suns head coach Monty Williams has been disciplined by the NBA after his comments regarding the officiating crew in the Game 4 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans. As a result of his comments in the aftermath of the Suns' loss, Williams has been slapped with a $15,000 fine, according to NBA Communications.

The Suns, who are without star guard Devin Booker, saw the series slip to 2-2 following their defeat in New Orleans, and Williams seems to think the referees played a big role in the outcome of the game. Williams didn't hide his thoughts when talking to reporters after the game on April 24, going off on a fiery diatribe.

“42-to-15 in free throws. You can slice that any way you want to. In a playoff game that physical, that’s amazing,” said Williams. “Coaches shouldn’t have to come up to the microphone and feel like they’re going to get their heads cut off for speaking the truth. It was 17-to-2 in the first half and they end up with 42. That’s hard to do in a game like that. And it’s not like we don’t attack the basket.”

Well, despite Williams' plea that coaches shouldn't fear speaking their minds after the game, the Suns coach was issued a $15,000 fine for doing just that. He gave his honest opinion on the officiating from Game 4, and unfortunately for him, those remarks come with a price.

Williams is far from the first individual to complain about the refs in the 2022 NBA Playoffs. Joel Embiid was fined $15,000 for comments he made about officials, and Taylor Jenkins was also handed a $15,000 fine for criticizing the referees.
