Phoenix Suns forward T.J. Warren has agreed to a four-year, $50 million extension with the team, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Warren would have had a free agent cap hold of $9.5 million coming into next summer if he hadn't signed the extension, according to ESPN Insider Bobby Marks. By extending his rookie deal, the Suns will only see a $2 million loss in cap space, making it a worthwhile signing for a starter.

The North Carolina State product had his best season in 2016-17, starting in 59 of 66 games and posting 14.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game while shooting 50 percent or more for the third straight season.

While his outside game suffered, the 24-year-old showed flashes of brilliance at the defensive end, making him a perfect complement to a high-octane backcourt of Eric Bledsoe and Devin Booker.

The Suns are trying to secure talent after an injury to Alan Williams after signing a three-year, $17 million offer earlier this summer and the recent team-option on center Alex Len. Phoenix had also signed former top-pick Anthony Bennett to a non-guaranteed training camp deal last week.

Warren is slated to make $3.2 million this season before his extension kicks in, almost quadrupling his salary for the next four years.
