The Phoenix Suns will reportedly pursue Patrick Beverley, Darren Collison, Cory Joseph and Ricky Rubio this summer in free agency, according to 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro.
The Suns have been looking for a starting-caliber point guard ever since they traded Eric Bledsoe to the Milwaukee Bucks in 2017.
Beverley, Collison, Joseph and Rubio are all unrestricted free agents this offseason.
The Phoenix Suns’ preliminary list of free agent point guards to target includes Patrick Beverley, Darren Collison, Cory Joseph and Ricky Rubio, per 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro.
Rubio won't be re-signing with the Utah Jazz, who traded for Mike Conley on Wednesday. Beverley wants to stay with the Los Angeles Clippers, but the rugged defender will surely meet with other teams once the free agency period starts on June 30.
Collison and Joseph both played for the Indiana Pacers this past season. Ironically, the Pacers also have interest in signing Rubio.
The Suns were hoping to secure the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft so they could draft Murray State point guard Ja Morant. Phoenix, though, ended up with the sixth overall pick. The Memphis Grizzlies are widely expected to draft Morant after trading Conley to Utah.
The Suns have been a walking disaster for years. Hopefully, new head coach Monty Williams can change the culture starting this season. It would help to have a serviceable point guard to run the offense so shooting guard Devin Booker can just focus on scoring.
