The Super Smash Bros. scene is welcoming a new contender, as Brazil's top esports organization FURIA has signed its first player. The name is a very familiar one—none other than Griffin “Fatality” Miller. The community highly regards Fatality as one of the best Smash Ultimate talents across the globe, and even the world's top Captain Falcon main.

By signing an illustrious talent like Fatality, FURIA not only makes a statement about its goals in the Smash Bros. scene, but it also underscores the organization's intent to expand into North America's esports world. Before crossing into Smash Ultimate, FURIA focused on first-person shooter (FPS) games like Counter-Strike and Rainbow Six Siege.

The South American org's expansion may also open avenues for tapping more top talent from the region. Fast becoming a global competition, Smash Ultimate might soon see a new dawn in attracting international players. After all, several Japanese players like ProtoBanham were already making a name for themselves at US majors.

Despite lacking major wins recently, Fatality remains a well-recognized figure in the Smash Ultimate scene. At the height of his career, the Falcon main had impressive stints with Team YP, Fly Society, and Recursion. Panda Global named Fatality as the 19th best Smash 4 player in its PGR100 All Time list. He also slotted into the top 50 of the PGRU Spring 2019 power rankings.

Earlier this year, Fatality won second at The Box: Juice Box 3 and placed in the top 20 at two recent LAN events. Besides joining more competitive events the past two years, he's also built a large following for streaming and content creation.

FURIA did not disclose the length of contract for its new—and so far, only—signing. Only time will tell if this evolves into a thriving new Smash Ultimate era for both org and player.
