First teased by Riot Games back in April, a new Player vs Environment (PvE) game mode, as well as some new skins, are on the way to League of Legends (LoL) in the form of the Swarm | Operation: Anima Squad 2024 event. This will be the first PvE event since Odyssey: Extraction.
Swarm | Operation: Anima Squad
Swarm| Operation: Anima Squad is a deeply replayable, co-op PvE game mode that will immerse players and their friends in the world of Anima Squad in LoL. The Anima Squad event is set to come out on July 17, 2024, and will run until August 19, 2024.
Inspired by games like Vampire Survivors and Holocure, players play as members of the elite Anima Squad. When Primordians, ancient lifeforms set on extinguishing humanity, arrive from the rising seas, it is up to the Anima Squad to protect Final City, humanity's last safe haven.
During the event, players can participate in a limited-time game mode with up to 3 friends, fighting off swarms of Primordians with increasing difficulty. To fight against the swarm, players will need to find weapons like the UwU Blaster, as well as Augments that will empower the player's stats.
To make things easier for players, the game mode will be adapting a WASD control scheme. This gives the player more freedom when it comes to maneuvering around and dodging enemies.
What makes this game mode even more interesting is that, unlike previous temporary game modes, this event has progression. Whenever players clear or lose a run, they gain Gold that they can use to purchase permanent Power Ups. These Power Ups give buffs to the players, making each consecutive run easier and easier to survive.
Additionally, this event is a narrative-driven event, with players learning more about the Core Anima Squad story, teaching them more about their world the more the player plays. Additionally, players will also be able to go achievement hunting during the event, which is great for completionists.
Anima Squad Skins
From the rising seas, ancient life emerges. Primordians – the planet’s white blood cells – harbingers of the next evolution event. Their prime directive: extinguish humanity. The Primordian threat has pushed civilization to the brink. For years, tribes of survivors hid in the darkness, resigned to annihilation.
Out of the ashes of our world, Final City was born. And Anima Squad, Final City’s elite task force of superpowered warriors armed with re-engineered Primordian technology, leads the dawn of a new human resistance, fighting for organic life.
Alongside this event comes the arrival of new Anima Squad skins, a continuation of the AnimaTech skin line that first came out in 202. There are a total of ten new Anima Squad skins coming to LoL, as well as a brand new Mythic Variant to an already existing skin:
