NBA Insider Shams Charania claimed that it is unlikely that former NBA star Carmelo Anthony will be invited to the FIBA 2019 World Cup:

According to Charania, Team USA has not shown interest in adding Anthony to the roster, even though there was considerable buzz around the NBA world about a possible Anthony addition.

Carmelo has a long and successful history with Team USA. He has a total of four Olympic medals. Anthony won gold in 2008, 2012, and 2016, and bronze in 2004.

In addition to the Olympic medals, the Syracuse product has a bronze medal from the FIBA world cup in 2006 and a gold medal from the FIBA AmeriCup in 2007.

Obviously, Anthony is one of the best Team USA players of all time. However, the ten-time All-Star is far past his prime. As of now, he is not even on an NBA roster.

His last appearance in the league ended very poorly. After signing with the Houston Rockets last season, Anthony lasted only ten games before being cut by the team. He averaged a career-low 13.4 points and 1.4 assists in just over 29 minutes a game.

It has been well documented that many NBA stars will not be participating in the FIBA Tournament this year. Big names like Anthony Davis, James Harden, and Damian Lillard have all declared that they will not play for Team USA this time. However, it doesn't look like the departures will push the team to pursue Carmelo Anthony just yet.
