Tennessee Volunteers coach Butch Jones is the gift that keeps giving. Between blaming the media for “fake news” to creating the weirdest cliched lines of all-time, he is a gold mine for meme makers.

Let's get to his latest round of strange thought first.

Following a loss to South Carolina, despite receiving an extra play the Vols shouldn't have gotten, here is Butch Jones speaking on what he thought of the game:

“We did everything to win the South Carolina game except score touchdowns.” Butch Jones said.

A few things here: Obviously, anything that came before the word “except” doesn't matter in this case, because the entire point of playing a sport that determines its victor by points has a lot of weight of importance shifted to touchdowns. So, really, Tennessee didn't do everything to win the game. The Vols, in fact, didn't do enough.

Since these quotes have come to light, the people in charge of the Vols have since come out to claim the words coming out of Jones' mouth were taken out of context. In response, a savvy reporter battled this claim of fake news by way of providing the entirety of the coach's thoughts.

What is remarkable about this entire thing is that Jones is really trying to play within the confines of the “fake news” bit that is ravaging major politics. Instead of taking accountability or discussing program issues in an honest way, he is instead attacking people in the media for doing their literal jobs.

If he did his, maybe he wouldn't have to take to this gimmick.
