The US Open came to a screeching halt on Wednesday night due to some extremely wild weather in New York City. Second-round play was suspended with heavy rain making its way into various stadiums, even though Arthur Ashe and Louis Armstrong have roofs at Flushing Meadows. Following two hours of intense downfall, play had to be stopped, via ESPN.

This is happening in August. Absolutely crazy. A match between Kevin Anderson and Diego Schwartzman was suspended but eventually resumed early on Thursday morning after the conclusion of Stefan Tsitsipas's four-set victory over Adrian Mannarino at Arthur Ashe. Schwartzman ended up coming out victorious against Anderson, who is a two-time major finalist.
The US Open match between Angelique Kerber and Anhelina Kalinina was also pushed back and will be played on Thursday. Fans in attendance even received flash flood warnings and were told this was a “life-threatening situation”. New York subway stations became completely flooded and people were told to stay away from traveling due to the torrential rain. New York governor Kathy Hochul even declared a state of emergency because of it.
You'd better believe there was a lot of work for the US Open crews when it came to getting the courts back in tip-top shape for matches. Thankfully, no one was injured due to the monsoon.
