The Houston Texans are bringing cornerback Bradley Roby back to Houston on a three-year deal, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network:

Roby played in just 10 games with the Texans last season due to a hamstring strain, but he managed to notch a pair of interceptions and eight pass deflections.

The former first-round pick has been insistent about his desire to return to Houston (via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle):

Roby has always expressed positive feelings about staying with the Texans.

“I’m very hopeful,” Roby said at the close of the season. “I really love this team, I love this city and coaching staff. I love everything about being here. I feel like I was meant to be here.

“I have a lot of relationships with the guys. I’m looking forward to working it out. I definitely feel like it’s home.”

Wilson also reported the decision to bring back Roby was likely influenced by the Texans' lack of cap flexibility, which would likely price them out of the market for high-end free-agent cornerbacks such as Byron Jones and James Bradberry.

Roby was excellent when healthy, even if he did not produce in terms of counting stats. Opposing quarterbacks had a mere 79.9 rating and completed barely over 60 percent of their passes when targeting him through the air, per Pro Football Reference.

The Texans will need Roby to stay on the field and anchor their pass defense if they hope to improve in 2020. Houston ranked 26th in defensive DVOA, and they also ranked 26th against the pass, according to Pro Football Outsiders.
