Just before the 2019 NFL campaign began, the Houston Texans acquired running back Carlos Hyde in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs to try and shore up their backfield after Lamar Miller suffered a torn ACL during the preseason.

Now, Hyde will get a chance to face his former Chiefs squad this Sunday when Kansas City goes to Houston to battle the Texans, and he has a little extra motivation to have a big game:

“You know what, it's getting real personal now,” Hyde said light-heartedly, according to Aaron Wilson of The Houston Chronicle. “Neither one of them (head coach Andy Reid or general manager Brett Veach) called me.

“Somebody I’ve never spoke to called me. It was like, ‘We just traded you to the Texans.' I thought it was a joke because I didn’t know who called me. I didn’t know who this guy was. He said, ‘We just traded you to the Texans.’ I still don’t know who the person is.”

The trade has worked out well for Hyde, who has gotten more playing time in Houston than he likely ever would have in Kansas City. Through five games, he has carried the ball 73 times for 310 yards and a couple of touchdowns, more than he probably would have achieved in the same amount of time playing alongside of LeSean McCoy and Damien Williams with the Chiefs.

“Oh yeah, I’m super happy,” Hyde said. “I’m happy to be here. Whoever traded me here, thank you, appreciate it.”

On one hand, Hyde has gotten more playing time, but on the other, it's obvious that the 29-year-old feels a bit slighted by Kansas City's front office, even if he was referring to the trade in a joking manner.
