The Houston Texans find themselves in a solid position amid the 2023-24 NFL season. Houston has a record of 6-5 and is in third place in the AFC South. The Texans have come full circle with a roster move they contemplated at the NFL trade deadline. Former Eagles LB Derek Barnett is one of the team's newest members.

The Texans bolster their linebacker depth with a decisive move

Houston acquired Derek Barnett by claiming him on waivers, per Adam Schefter. The move for Barnett makes sense given the injury status of two of their key linebackers.

Jake Hansen remains questionable going into Week 13 after he broke his hand earlier in the season. In addition, Henry To'oTo'o is out with a concussion from Houston's Week 9 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Derek Barnett will provide support for Houston's linebacker core. The 27-year-old played in eight games for the Eagles during the 2023-24 season and amassed one solo tackle and two assists. Perhaps Barnett can help the Texans bounce back after their tough 24-21 loss to the Jaguars.

Houston led the game going into the third quarter, but Jacksonville outscored the Texans and held them to one TD in the fourth. CJ Stroud continued his outstanding rookie season with 304 yards and two TDs.  In addition, the 22-year-old led the team on the ground with 47 yards on six carries and one TD.

The Texans need all hands on deck as they prepare to face a hot Denver Broncos team in Week 13. The Broncos have won five games in a row under the leadership of Russell Wilson and co. Surely, Houston will take advantage of home field as they look for victory.
