The Houston Texans have been facing the Deshaun Watson decision for months as the star quarterback is in the thick of investigations and his future is still up in the air. With the regular season kicking off in less than two weeks, the Texans had to make a decision whether to keep him or trade him.
Well, according to Aaron Wilson, the Texans are prepared to keep him–and have him inactive for the regular-season games.
Texans are prepared to have Deshaun Watson on the 53-man roster and inactive every week, according to multiple league sources. Watson, who has issued a standing trade request with no deal imminent, would be paid his $10.54 million salary

Watson, of course, issued a trade at the beginning of 2021 but was not dealt after all, especially after the allegations came across. As the NFL awaits the completion of the investigation, teams have been a bit weary to trade for him as his future in the NFL is extremely foggy.
Although the rumors picked up regarding the Miami Dolphins, head coach Brian Flores slammed those rumors down, and this report suggests that no deal is even close to happening until his situation is resolved.
The Texans will be forced to pay his salary for the season, and it is clear that they don’t want to trade him for a discount, which is surely what would have happened if he was dealt right now.
The #Texans are prepared to go into the season with Deshaun Watson on the 53-man roster and have him inactive every week, per @AaronWilson_NFL. Would cost Houston $10.54M.
Bottomline: GM Nick Caserio is not looking to trade a 25-year old franchise QB for 70 cents on the dollar.

So, Watson is staying put, for now, and we wait even longer for some clarity regarding his future in the NFL.
