As was the case for several other free agents who signed with the New Orleans Saints, Jameis Winston played quite a notable role in Jarvis Landry’s decision to take his talents to the NFC South.

Two months after he was released by the Cleveland Browns, Landry signed with the Saints on Friday for a mere one-year free agent deal. Even though he had multiple other teams that were interested in signing him, the Louisiana native elected to instead return home.

Speaking during his introductory press conference with the Saints, Landry opened up on just what went behind his call to join New Orleans. For one, he touched base with Saints general manager Mickey Loomis, head coach Dennis Allen and also Winston himself about signing with the team.

In Landry’s talks with Winston, he revealed on Sunday that the veteran quarterback spoke highly of the team’s coaching staff and also its culture. Both of these factors appealed to the versatile wideout at this stage in his career.

While head coach Sean Payton opted to retire earlier in the year, multiple assistant coaches still decided to stay put in New Orleans. For one, Pete Carmichael Jr., who has been with the team since 2006, will serve as Allen’s offensive coordinator for the 2022 campaign.

On the other hand, Landry sure knows just about the culture with the Saints as a Louisiana native and former LSU star himself.

Landry joins the Saints after an up-and-down run with the Cleveland Browns, which included posting career lows in receptions (52) and receiving yards (570) last season. He sure has plenty left in the tank to be a vital contributor on the field at this point in his NFL run.
