Absolutely wild scenes took place in the Portuguese Primera Division on Friday during a rivalry matchup between FC Porto and Sporting CP. Tensions rose during the game and something of a brawl broke out, during which the legendary defender Pepe was seen kicking Sporting's director Hugo Viana. According to Marca.com, Pepe's actions could result in him being sanctioned with a lofty suspension ranging from anywhere between two months to as many as two years. At the age of 39, this could very well spell the end of Pepe's playing career, particularly if the punishment lands on the harsher side.

The outlet Ojogo reports that Pepe has been suspended and won't be able to “participate in any national competition until the disciplinary process is known.”

Footage of the wild incident late in the game can be seen here, where as many as four players were given red cards, including Pepe after his altercation with Viana.

At age 39, Pepe was likely nearing the end of his playing career anyway, but because this unthinkable sending-off could result in a multi-year suspension for the Portuguese veteran, his hot-headedness may have just prematurely ended his career.

Pepe has been known throughout his esteemed career for having a short temper, and that was on full display Friday when things got completely out of hand in the rivalry matchup in Portugal.

Fans will have to wait and see what discipline ends up getting handed down onto Pepe, but if the suspension is as lofty as it could be, there's a real chance we've seen the last of Pepe at the domestic level.
