The Philadelphia 76ers are in the hunt for a head coach. Tyronn Lue’s name keeps getting mentioned for the job, but many fans have questions about Ty Lue’s abilities.

On the Locked On 76ers Podcast, host Keith Pompey takes a look at the Ty Lue situation and explains why there’s a double standard when it comes to Tyronn Lue and other championship-winning coaches.

Keith Pompey: This whole Tyronn Lue thing is really starting to bother me a little bit. And again, I don't have a dog in the race or whatever. But I also believe that it comes a point in time where, you know, sometimes certain people out here are being critical and they don't even know the person. They haven’t really paid attention to the guy's coaching ability, or what have you. And to be honest with you, if I really want to be blunt, this is one of those things where I see it all the time. Whenever you have a successful black coach, nine out of 10 times, they say he has great talent. Whenever you have a successful white coach, they say, nine out of 10 times, he brought out the talent and great players. To me, we can't continue to do that. And I'm not going to allow people to use this platform to do it. And I've been seeing it happening a lot, a lot lately. And it's really disturbing.

We sit back and we talk about Ty Lue… People say ‘I don't know if he can coach… he had a LeBron James. He's the type of guy who basically you know, he's a good guy, nice guy. Everyone likes him, but I don't know how he can deal with personalities. I don’t know.’

Now to me, like when I hear stuff like that, you know, it brings back Phil Jackson, Steve Kerr, Red Auerbach. And the reason why I'm saying these guys is from what I hear. I don’t know, I wasn't born yet. But from what I hear, Red Auerbach was a great coach, right? But you can't deny the fact that those Boston Celtics teams were loaded, right? So when you have a guy like Billy Cunningham, who can coach, can coach his tail off, right? So you have a guy like him, and you have Red Auerbach, but you look at how dominant the Celtics were. You look at how they had arguably the best players, the best collection of players. That’s the reason why they were winning all those ‘ships. And some people gonna say that I'm crazy. But what I'm saying is, you win with the Jimmys and the Joes and not X's and O's a lot of times.

So then you go to Phil Jackson… He coached Jordan, Pippen, Shaq, Kobe. And we could go on and on with a slew of people. Doug Collins was a successful coach with the Chicago Bulls. He couldn't get over the hump. They let them go. They say he let Jordan get away with too much, right? He gets elevated, he becomes the coach. He gets all the credit. Now, granted, a great coach.

Now, let's go to the Golden State Warriors. Steve Kerr. Klay, Steph, Splash Brothers, Draymond, KD. I mean, there were times when Kerr got sick. Luke Walton came in, phenomenal job. Mike Brown… phenomenal job.

So I asked you, is it the coach, or is it the players?

So now Ty Lue comes in. He gets the the Cleveland job. David Blatt… players didn't respect him. LeBron wanted him out of there. Ty Lue becomes the coach, they win the championship? Now everyone's saying ‘I don't know if he can coach. It was all about LeBron.’

Well, why wasn't it all about the deep Celtics team? Why wasn't it all about the deep Golden State Warriors team? Why wasn't it all about the deep Lakers team, the deep Chicago Bulls team? It’s a double standard. A huge double standard for Ty Lue.
