The Boise State football team had a good season this year as they ended up wining the Mountain West Championship. The Broncos finished the regular season with a 7-5 record, but they went 6-2 in conference play, and that earned them a berth into the Mountain West title game. Boise State took on UNLV in that matchup, and they won the contest to earn them the conference crown. The Broncos went on to lose to UCLA in their bowl game, but any season in which you win your conference title is cause for celebration. Next year, this team is looking to defend their conference crown, and they will have quarterback Malachi Nelson leading the team as he just transferred over from USC football.

Malachi Nelson has had an interesting path to get to where he is now with Boise State football. Nelson was part of the 2023 recruiting class as that is when he graduated high school, and he was the top overall prospect in that recruiting class. Not just the top quarterback, but the #1 overall player in the entire country. He could've gone anywhere that he wanted, and he chose to take his talents to USC football.

Obviously, USC had Heisman winner Caleb Williams as their starting QB this season, so Malachi Nelson was the backup, but most people expected Nelson to get the starting job next season. Williams is heading to the pros and he is expected to be the the top overall pick in the NFL Draft this spring, so the starting job at USC will be available next season. Because of this, it was a big surprise when Nelson transferred. A lot of people thought it could be because of how the Trojans performed this season, and knowing Nelson was the former top overall recruit, it seemed like he would have a lot of options from big name schools. So when he committed to Boise State football, that was also a bit of a surprise to a lot of college football fans.

Now, Nelson is a Bronco, and Boise State should be a good team next season. With the expanded playoff and the guarantee of a group of five school making it, these team has high expectations, and with Nelson under center, perhaps they can achieve their lofty goals. Here are three predictions for Nelson's Boise State career.

Boise State will win the Mountain West next season

Boise State football won the Mountain West this past season, and if Malachi Nelson is what everyone thought he was going to be in college, the Broncos should have the best QB in the conference next year. That goes a long way in terms of winning the conference title. Boise State is almost always one of the best group of five teams and they are almost always competing for Mountain West championships. Next year will be no different, and Nelson can take this team to the next level. Boise State will win the Mountain West again next season.

Malachi Nelson will throw for 3,000 yards next season

Teams like Boise State don't often end up with the top overall player from a recruiting class, especially if that player is a QB. Well, the Broncos have one now, and they are going to take advantage of it. Expect Boise State to have a pass heavy offense next year, and Nelson is going to be slinging the ball around a lot. If he is as good as people think, he should be able to handle opposing defenses in the Mountain West, and he should be able to put up some big numbers next year. Expect Nelson to have a good season stats wise, and expect him to reach the 3,000 mark in terms of passing yards.

Malachi Nelson will lead Boise State to the College Football Playoff

The College Football Playoff is expanding to 12 teams next season, and that is going to help a lot of programs. Boise State football is one of them. With the four team playoff, it's almost impossible for group of five schools to make the playoff, but the highest ranked one is guaranteed a spot in the new playoff format. If the Broncos can win their conference and finish as the highest ranked group of five school, they will be in the College Football Playoff. With a QB like Nelson, they can certainly achieve that goal. He will be a sophomore next season, so Nelson will have at least two years with the Broncos. He will lead them to the playoff at least one time.
