This season the Oklahoma City Thunder will go through a major change, all because of the loss of Kevin Durant. Durant decided to move on from the team and go to Golden State, because of it everything has changed.

This preseason the team will be searching for a new small forward and it will be a difficult search. A few of their options are Andre Roberson, Kyle Singler, and Josh Huestis. To say the least, none of these guys have the offensive ability of Kevin Durant. Do not underestimate the Thunder though, their offense could still take a step in the right direction.

The two main keys to the Thunder doing that is Billy Donovan's scheming and the players' learning ability. OKC has always been known as an “iso” team but that will have to change. They no longer have one of the best scorers in the league. They also no longer have a power forward who can stretch the floor and hit mid-range shots at 50 percent when he is playing his best. What the Thunder do have is players that can pass. This offseason they acquired more players with that talent. Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis could bring quite a bit to the team's floor spacing.

While playing for the Orlando Magic and playing at Indiana in college, Oladipo got some time at point guard. For his career Oladipo only averages four assists per game, but that could go up with a more talent team in OKC. There is no doubt that Oladipo will be asked to run some point guard, most likely staggering his time on the court with Russell Westbrook. Oladipo will have to become a smart floor general if the team wants to become successful. What will help with that is the skill of Domantas Sabonis. Sabonis has flashed the ability to find the open man on the court and get him the ball when needed. It is huge that Sabonis has some time playing internal ball with Lithuania.

The Thunder could go from a “my turn-your turn” play to a type of play that resembles the San Antonio Spurs. Becoming more like the Spurs makes sense for the team too. General Manager Sam Presti got his NBA front-office experience started in San Antonio. Presti knows what it takes to build a team that focuses on passing. Some might question that since OKC has shown no signs of it throughout their entire history. Why would the Thunder change now? Again, the loss of Kevin Durant.

Losing Durant will not only give the Thunder the ability to change, it will almost force them too. That should be no problem for them. International teams are always known for their ball movement and their passing, look at the Thunder now. Heavy with international players.

All of these players will be needed in big roles for the team as they progress to a new system. Billy Donovan will need to flex his coaching muscles like he did in the postseason and figure it all out. Donovan will have all kinds of different rotations to use, all of which that can move the ball. OKC does not have the best shooting in the league, far from it, but they may have a new great passing ability. Watch closely this preseason as the team begins putting all their new changes in place. They should keep Thunder fans on their toes and might even surprise the rest of the NBA.
