If Chet Holmgren struggled early in NBA Summer League, most wouldn't put too much stock in it. After all, the showcase is primarily a playground for high-volume scorers and ball-handlers.

But Holmgren decided to show out a little early – and then some. The Oklahoma City Thunder rookie pulled off a historic summer league performance in his very first game, a 98-77 win against the Jazz. The gangly center tallied 23 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and a never-before-done six blocks on the night.

When informed about resetting the NBA Summer League blocks record, Chet Holmgren sent out a warning to his next SL opponents – he's gunning for more than six next time:

“Only six? That's a record? Well, I'm coming to break it again,” said Holmgren with confidence with his arm around Josh Giddey.

What's extra impressive is he also finished a sterling 7-for-9 from the field. Those shots weren't easy dunks either, as he hit four three-pointers to show off just how much of a unicorn he truly is. Chet Holmgren became the first player in NBA Summer League history to record at least five blocks and four three-pointers in a single game.

Not only did he get blocks and threes, but he also pulled off an epic isolation move and Dirk Nowitzki-esque fadeaway over a Jazz defender – then proceeded to call him too “little”.

It's obviously completely premature to mark this day as the one that proves Chet Holmgren to be a bona fide stud. But if this is a sign of things to come down the road for the OKC Thunder, his jerseys are going to start flying off the shelves.

The OKC Thunder have been in rebuild mode for several seasons now. If their core three of Holmgren, Giddey, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander can find their footing soon, they could be making noise a lot earlier than most expect.
