Despite the Oklahoma City Thunder's unexpected success in the 2020 NBA season, there could be a rebuild underway after the departure of head coach Billy Donovan, perhaps as soon as this upcoming season. That would likely mean a trade of veteran point guard Chris Paul.

While Paul recently said it's “a blessing” to be able to play at a high level at this age, you have to imagine he'd prefer to be contending for titles in his final years in the NBA. There have been some rumors linking CP3 to the Milwaukee Bucks (also some suggesting it won't happen), and Marc Berman of the New York Post reports there are those who believe the veteran point guard “would feel blessed to be on a winning club” like that.

The bottom line for Chris Paul:

“He’s 35 — he wants to win,’’ one NBA executive said.

Apart from joining a powerhouse squad like the Bucks, Berman also speculates that Paul might want to play in a huge market like New York and reunite with his former agent in Leon Rose, who now serves as Knicks president. While the Knicks have been awful for a while, bringing them back to glory could be appealing.

There are some complications when it comes to trading for Chris Paul. While he just had an incredible season, he is 35 years old and has had some injury issues in the recent past. On top of this, the point guard is owed over $41 million for next season and has a player option worth over $44 million in 2021-22.

The Knicks are set to have a boatload of cap space this offseason, which could make a trade easier. It's worth pointing out, though, that they might have more interest in trading for a younger star in Victor Oladipo.

The North Carolina native has had a stacked career resume highlighted by his 2013 NBA All-Star Game MVP, four All-NBA First-Team selections, two Olympic gold medals, and 10 All-Star appearances through 15 seasons in the league.

The upcoming offseason will see whether Chris Paul will continue to don the colors of the Thunder or ultimately move on to greener pastures.
