Paul George grew up in Palmdale, which is not that far from Los Angeles. As a kid, he was a huge Kobe Bryant fan, and he considers L.A. home.

Those things have tied him to the Lakers for quite some time, and he has made no bones about his desire to play for the storied franchise. But at the moment, he is in Oklahoma City as a member of the Thunder.

George is a free agent at the end of this season, and he has a decision to make. But there are plenty of executives who still think Paul is destined to be a Laker, per Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer.

The Lakers are in a tough spot. It won’t be easy for them to dump salary, and even if they do, there are no guarantees that players like LeBron James or Paul George will come to Los Angeles. Though most league executives still expect George to bolt for the Lakers, the All-Star forward recently said his strong relationship with Russell Westbrook this season has made the decision on his future long-term home “easier.”

There are too many variables to ensure that George goes to the Lakers. And after the Lakers were fined were tampering with George over the summer, the word about any player the Lakers are interested in is hush-hush.

But the fact that executives still think George will join the Lakers is significant. They are the ones making and taking calls and have intimate knowledge about all of the NBA.

In the NBA, anything is possible. Fans should prepare for anything and everything.
