Anthony Edwards' first season in the league showed that he had the potential to be a special player in the NBA. The Minnesota Timberwolves rookie got noticeably better as the 2020-21 season went on. Just one season later, he is confirmed to be that guy.

Edwards' latest masterpiece came in a close Timberwolves win against the Portland Trail Blazers. With 40 points, nine rebounds, three steals and three blocks, Edwards dominated. After the game, he made it clear that he knows how good he is. Per John Krawczynski of The Athletic:

“I feel like Black Jesus,” Edwards said after shrugging his shoulders. “Yeah.”

Edwards' confidence and charisma know no bounds. His incredible skills make him a very fun player and he backs it up with some hilarious postgame quotes. In the same press conference, he said that he would be gunning for the MVP award next season. It's a lofty goal for the 20-year-old but is one that is not far out of his reach if he keeps improving.

Edwards' improvements have helped the Timberwolves as a team improve. They are now 24-23 on the season and are the seventh seed in the Western Conference. The second-year standout is averaging 22.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.5 steals. He does it all for the up-and-coming Wolves.

Minnesota has not known playoff success in recent memory, save for one first-round appearance in 2018. With Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns leading a young squad, the fortunes of the franchise may soon turn around.
