Many NBA players, especially members of the Black community, were vocal about their thoughts regarding the recent riot at the U.S. Capitol. Minnesota Timberwolves guard D'Angelo Russell was one of them and took the time to initiate a roundtable discussion with the media members to get their opinions on the issue, per Ben Stinar.

A particular media member touched on the notion that some policemen reacted to the Black Lives Matter movement differently as opposed to how they treated the protesters who barged into the US Capitol building. He also placed himself in the shoes of the members of the Black community and how heartbreaking it must be for them to see the difference in treatment that was only based on the color of a person.

The Timberwolves star has been involved with promoting the Black Lives Matter movement during the offseason. He previously led a protest in Louisville, the city where Breonna Taylor was shot and killed by police officers back in March of 2020.

“We got everybody out here: all skin complexions, all ages, all different beliefs. But none of that matters right now … this is me stepping out of character to come out and speak to everybody…everybody here is together for one reason only: we want justice, we want justice for everybody,” Russell said in the protest via WLKY reporter Shaquille Lord.

Hopefully, the gesture recently made by D'Angelo Russell will help encourage more people to speak out on the matter and spark unity among people belonging to different races amid these trying times.

Through 10 games this season with the Timberwolves, Russell is averaging 20.3 points and 5.2 assists.
