In 2011, Derrick Rose was named the youngest Most Valuable Player in league history and was already dubbed as the future of the NBA. However, several injuries, especially to his knees, derailed what was supposed to be a Hall of Fame career. The 2011 NBA MVP went through a lot of adversity since tearing his ACL back in 2012. After going through several years of rehab, Rose says he feels and wants to look healthy, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.

“I feel healthy and I want to look healthy,” Rose said. “Right now, just like in anything in life, you miss something for a long time and you get something taken away from you, it’s going to take some time to get a rhythm back.

“Being on this team, I have the opportunity to go out there and help the team. I’m in a different phase in my career right now where I don’t have to put up 40 points, 30 points a night just for us to stay in the game.”

Obviously, Rose is now in a different phase in his career with the Minnesota Timberwolves. He is no longer the Derrick Rose who dazzled fans with his other-worldly athleticism and mad hops that propelled him to NBA stardom early in his career.

Rose is fully embracing his sixth-man role with the Timberwolves. In fact, he said his goal for this year is to win the Sixth Man of the Year award. While some may feel bad that the former superstar has now stooped down to aiming for a bench-role award, Rose seems to have accepted that this is where he stands.

Now as a 30-year-old vet, Derrick Rose looks to revitalize his career by consistently staying healthy and contributing the best way he can for his team.
