The money is great, but Karl-Anthony Towns has a bigger reason for signing his $224 million supermax extension with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Towns immediately agreed to the extension at the beginning of July. Now after the deal has been made official, the All-Star big man opened up about the supermax and why he never hesitated on committing with the Timberwolves long-term.

“I love living here. I love being here. I love everything that comes with being in Minnesota, so I just wanted to go out there and I wanted to get it done,” Towns shared, per Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

During the same presser after signing his deal with the Timberwolves, Karl-Anthony Towns also shared his dream of retiring in Minnesota. With his contract that keeps him with the team until 2028, that is now a big possibility.

“My dream was always to try to retire here and live every single day of my NBA career as a Wolf. Deeper into my career, new contract, I feel very good with the possibility of that happening,” Towns added.

This is certainly what Timberwolves fans want to hear. While the team has yet to achieve anything significant with Towns, the future is certainly looking brighter than ever for the team. Not only do they have a young rising star in Anthony Edwards, but they also recently traded for Rudy Gobert to bolster their defense and form their own “Big 3” alongside Towns.

Keeping Towns long-term means the Timberwolves have every chance to build a contender around him. They are certainly in a good position to compete in the playoffs for years, and if everything works, an NBA title shouldn't be a farfetched dream.
