Anthony Edwards telling Charles Barkly to “bring ya a**” to Minneapolis after the Minnesota Timberwolves clinched a spot in the Western Conference Finals will go down as one of the best quotes in NBA history. It's one of the all-time greatest lines in the history of Minnesota sports, too.

Edwards may not have been on his best game in Game 7 against the Denver Nuggets but he still played a part in one of the biggest wins in Timberwolves history to date. Clutch showings from Naz Reid and Rudy Gobert sealed the deal as the Wolves now sit one series away from their first-ever NBA Finals, where they would face either the Boston Celtics or Indiana Pacers.

Minnesota is deep in love with this Timberwolves team – and it’s not hard to see why. Governor Tim Walz added more fuel to the fire by posting a declaration that May 22, 2024, the day of Game 1 of their WCF series against the Dallas Mavericks, will be known as “Wolves Back Day.” Check out the first letter of each line. It spells out the newest quote heard 'round the basketball world.

Minnesota announces “Wolves Back Day” using Anthony Edwards' famous quip

Each part of the proclamation lays out the history behind the Timberwolves' story as a franchise and ascent back to the top stage in the Western Conference. There’s also a classic sentence simply reading, “Naz Reid.” Wolves fans have gravitated heavily toward the Sixth Man of the Year

This isn’t the only way the Minnesota government has gotten use out of Edwards' famous quip. It registered a domain name using Edwards' quote as a link to the website for state tourism. All over social media, the Explore Minnesota Tourism accounts have plastered the quote on pictures of local landmarks as a way to promote the state’s attractions.

The Timberwolves have a lot of pressure to win Game 1 against the Mavericks. Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving and the athletic supporting cast around them will be tough to overcome. But the Wolves are no joke, either.

Minnesota has a deep team and a ridiculously great defense that just took down the defending champions and even held them to 70 points in one of the games. Edwards has the potential to take over the game at a moment’s notice and has several strong shooters and scorers alongside him.

Target Center will be popping as Edwards, Karl-Anthony Towns and the Wolves look to take down the Mavs. Barkley, as instructed, has brought himself into town for the first time in 20 years. The rest of TNT's “Inside the NBA” crew will also be there along with guest panelist Draymond Green.

Anthony Edwards' quip and incredible style of play have already made him a Minnesota sports legend — and he'll only be adding more to it. But his status as an all-time icon of the North Star State could be stamped immediately and permanently if he and Minnesota Vikings superstar Justin Jefferson recreated the famous picture of Kevin Garnett and Randy Moss wearing each other’s jerseys. Someone, please make it happen!
