Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns posted a very emotional video on Instagram, revealing that his mother has been battling COVID-19. Towns shared that his mother has been infected with the virus and is in a medically-induced coma.

Many have since reached out to the 2-time All-Star. Of course, the Timberwolves offered their support for the franchise cornerstone, with new All-Star teammate D'Angelo Russell also retweeting the tweet:

Likewise, Thaddeus Young, currently with the Chicago Bulls, offered up prayers for Towns and his family.

These are certainly trying times for the 24-year old big man. Despite clearly being in a lot of pain, Towns continues to exude a positive mindset and believes his mom will get through this. Likewise, the former Kentucky standout encouraged everyone to take this disease seriously. He also reminded everyone to strictly practice proper hygiene, home quarantine, and social distancing as the world continues to deal with this crisis.

This is definitely a sad story. In his post, the Timberwolves' 2015 no. 1 overall pick called his mother “the strongest woman he knows.” Certainly, we are hoping and praying that Towns' mother can pull through and defeat this disease.

Towns' story is just one of the thousands of other heartbreaking anecdotes across the globe. Thousands of people have already lost their loved ones due to this virus. Moreover, so much more are affected by the loss of jobs and livelihoods.

The NBA is still in hiatus and players have been doing their part to assist those affected. Given how fast the virus is spreading and the rampant spike in infections all over the world, it seems like we won't be seeing basketball for a little while.

As for Big KAT, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, as well.
