The Minnesota Timberwolves are amid a Western Conference playoff clash with the Phoenix Suns. Of course, Rudy Gobert has been the team's defensive anchor throughout their run; however, his girlfriend is making headlines for her disagreement with the results of the NBA's most overrated “award”.

The Athletic released results of its anonymous player survey revealing 11 of 81 participants found Gobert to be the most overrated player in the NBA. Yet, Julia Bonilla, Gobert's partner, was not fond of the finding. She emphasized that Gobert is a player worthy of his credit.

“My partner is the most dedicated, focused, hard-working person I have ever met. He hasn't stolen anything from anyone and deserves all the respect for his determination and commitment to his career,” Bonilla said, per TMZ.

“It's hard for me to stay quiet in front of so much stupidity, disrespect, and nonsense. I am proud of the person he is — fair, a great teammate, with a good heart and a strong mind,” Bonilla added.

Rudy Gobert's girlfriend has a point. The star defensive center's commitment and play have earned him a finalist spot for the NBA's 2023-24 Defensive Player of the Year award. If he wins, Gobert will have amassed four DPOY honors, ranking him higher among players with the most defensive awards in league history.

Gobert is a large reason why the Timberwolves have excelled throughout the year. He averaged 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks through 76 regular season games. Moreover, Gobert helped Minnesota rank fourth in Team Defense, per NBA.com.

The 31-year-old continues to be highly effective in the postseason. Gobert put up a commanding 14-point-16-rebound double-double in the Timberwolves' Game 1 120-95 win over the Suns. Overrated arguments aside, if he continues his production, Minnesota will be on its way to an impressive Western Conference playoff showing.

Gobert has plenty of help beside him to help the T-Wolves achieve their goals.

Timberwolves look to make deep run off momentum of their stars

Rudy Gobert's partner-in-crime, Karl-Anthony Towns makes just as big of an impact in the frontcourt for Minnesota. Towns missed most of the last month of the regular season with a meniscus injury. Yet, he returned just in time for the postseason and has been a great help.

Towns scored 19 points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished four assists, and went eight for eight at the free throw line in Game 1 against the Suns. He is still getting back into his groove, but at full capacity, he is scary. The former All-Star averaged 21.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, and shot a commendable 41.6% on three-pointers during the regular season.

Of course, Minnesota would likely not be at the level it is without the services of star guard Anthony Edwards. After completing his second All-Star-caliber season, Edwards entered the playoffs with a hardcore mentality.

The 22-yeard-old went toe-to-toe with Kevin Durant and Devin Booker during Game 1 against the Suns. He finished the matchup with a team-high 33 points along with nine rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Edwards leaves everything on the floor, and his presence gives the T-Wolves a massive advantage.

All in all, Rudy Gobert's squad is in good hands, and his girlfriend's compliments help capture the impact he makes. Can Gobert win his fourth NBA Defensive Player of the Year award? It will be interesting to see how he and the Timberwolves perform for the rest of the postseason.
