The Minnesota Timberwolves have released a statement with regard to center Justin Patton's injury.

Per Chris Mannix of Yahoo Sports, according to a statement by the Timberwolves, the 21-year-old Patton will be out indefinitely after suffering an injury to his right foot. The 6-foot-11 center will be scheduled for surgery.

Below is the full statement:

Per Shams Charania of The Athletic, Patton, who was originally the 16th pick of the Chicago Bulls in the 2017 NBA Draft, broke his right foot in a workout. This is the second time that he has suffered a foot injury.

Prior to the 2017 Summer League, Patton broke his left foot and was subsequently sidelined. He only played one game in the 2017-18 season and spent the majority of the season with the Timberwolves' G League affiliate, the Iowa Wolves, where he logged in 12.7 points and 5.4 rebounds in 23.2 minutes per contest in 38 games.

Per Kyle Ratke of NBA.com Iowa Wolves head coach Scott Roth spoke about Patton, particularly on what he saw in the 21-year-old that made him look like the 16th overall pick in the draft:

“He was in a unique situation with not really having anything the summer after the draft. Not participating in Summer League, not participating in training camp. And then coming down here for his first pro experience. He was on a minutes restriction. Once he got his legs underneath him, and got back in shape, he had flashes of what people see in him. A guy who is mobile, who can pass the ball, a tremendous passer. Improving shooter, a pretty good athlete. He gets up and down the floor. Still a lot of rawness to him. But he showed flashes throughout the course of the season.”

This is such an unfortunate setback for the young big man, but everyone is rooting for him to make a successful recovery.
