The Minnesota Timberwolves are 21-24 on the season, 11th place in the Western Conference standings. If the playoffs were to start today, the team would not make it, which is why starting power forward Taj Gibson says his “sense of urgency is at an all-time high” right now.

Taj Gibson, along with point guard Derrick Rose, are the veteran leaders on the Timberwolves. Both players have been in countless playoff battles and are trying to help big man Karl-Anthony Towns and small forward Andrew Wiggins learn the ropes of leading a team now that Jimmy Butler is in Philadelphia.

It's been hard, though. Both Towns and Wiggins are still young players and learning what it takes to win and compete every night in the NBA. Gibson says he's trying to do whatever he can to help his team and ultimately get back in the playoff picture.

In 44 games for Minnesota this season, Gibson is averaging 10.5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists while shooting 55.7 percent from the field, 35.5 percent from beyond the arc and 70.4 percent from the free-throw line.

The Timberwolves host the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. It's a game they should be able to win, but the way this team has played all season, nothing is a guarantee anymore. Minnesota lost to the Suns earlier in the year.
