The Minnesota Timberwolves are an up-and-coming team in the NBA that is currently at a crossroads in their development.

After making the playoffs and finishing eighth in the Western Conference in 2017-18, the Timberwolves have proven that their combination of veteran leadership and youth should never be taken lightly. However, they also have some clear weaknesses that need to be addressed quickly if they want to make a big splash in 2018-19.

In an effort to do so, they’ve brought in Marcus Georges-Hunt and Rashad Vaughn, as well as journeyman John Jenkins, in for a workout, as reported by Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

All three players are relatively young and could potentially crack the roster if they impress. Minnesota is relatively thin at both guard position with only Jeff Teague, Jimmy Butler, the oft-injured Derrick Rose, Tyus Jones, and rookie Josh Okogie on the roster.

Adding in a third-string point guard, who can play spot minutes at the two, would round out their team beautifully, especially with Jamal Crawford not expected to be back and Butler possibly looking to get traded.

Whether or not this pans out, anyone among Georges-Hunt, Vaughn, or Jenkins could become bench players for a club that finished second to the last in bench scoring last season with an average of 26.6 points per game.

Only time will tell whether these young guns actually impress the coaching staff, but if they’re really serious about making the team, they have a lot of work cut out for them in the coming months.
