Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns was called for two quick technical fouls that led to his first career ejection. The play happened near the end of the first half as Towns attempted a shot in front of the Utah Jazz's Rudy Gobert.

The All-Star center made the basket, but he felt that there was some unnecessary contact involved. Towns proceeded to yell something at the referee, which the latter did not like, hence the quick whistle.

Prior to being thrown out, Towns was able to notch 13 points, four rebounds, and one steal in 20 minutes of action.

The Timberwolves are already missing the services of their leader in Jimmy Butler, who's slated to be out for an extended period. Without Towns, the load had become even heavier for Andrew Wiggins and Jeff Teague as they hold their own against a very dangerous and determined Jazz team.

This comes at a bad time with Towns looking to consistently build momentum as the Timberwolves' de facto leader. In their previous game, Towns managed to log monstrous numbers of 34 points, 17 rebounds, two steals, and three blocks against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Minnesota currently sits at third place in the Western Conference, but they are by no means safe as four other teams — the Blazers, San Antonio Spurs, New Orleans Pelicans, and Oklahoma City Thunder — are breathing down their necks.

Outside of Towns and the Timberwolves, though, this instance only adds to the growing questions that are looming above the officials this season. They've become too quick with their whistle and the players remain struggling to cope up and adapt to a radical change in their discretion.
