Though they've only been teammates for a short period of time, Karl-Anthony Towns and Robert Covington seem to be developing a friendship as members of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Covington, now 27 years of age, came to the Timberwolves as part of a trade with the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this month — the same deal that sent Jimmy Butler to the City of Brotherly Love.

“RoCo,” as Covington is known, has instilled a certain amount of accountability within his new teammates. And Towns, who was reportedly at odds with Butler, is in a much better mood these days — a fact that is reflected in his stats.

Further proof of the bond developing between Towns and Covington came during Wednesday's media availability, when the two players served as impromptu reporters:

“How much do I bail you out on defense?” Covington asked Towns in jest.

“You know, when RoCo is beaten on a cut, I'm usually the one right there,” Towns said with a smile. “So I'm pretty happy about my ability to help him out.”

Towns finished his media availability, but the shenanigans continued. This time, it was his turn to ask Covington a question:

The fact that Towns and Covington are getting along so well is certainly a good sign for Timberwolves fans, who have endured a saga-like start to this season. Since Butler was traded for Covington and Dario Saric, the Wolves have posted a 6-2 record.

“We have a long way to go, but we keep improving,” Minnesota coach Tom Thibodeau told ESPN after Monday's win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. “We're still not playing as well as we can. We can't be satisfied.”

The Timberwolves will be back in action on Wednesday night, as they're scheduled to host the San Antonio Spurs. Tip-off inside the Target Center is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
