According to Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune, the Minnesota Timberwolves are working towards a contract extension with star forward Andrew Wiggins.

Originally a first overall pick of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Wiggins was quickly traded to Minnesota along with former #1 pick Anthony Bennett for star forward Kevin Love. Cleveland has reaped the benefits of the trade, winning an NBA Championship and ending Cleveland's championship drought along the way. But Minnesota was a big winner as well, as Wiggins has been outstanding for the T-Wolves in his three seasons in the NBA.

So far, Wiggins has averaged 20.4 points, 2.1 assists, and 4.1 rebounds in his career, becoming a key offensive weapon for a very young and talented Timberwolves squad.

Originally touted as a defensive prospect coming out of college, Wiggins has been slow to pick up NBA defensive tendencies but that should be ironed out soon enough under head coach Tom Thibodeau. With the potential to be the next best two-way superstar, it is vital that the Wolves retain Wiggins' talents for the next few seasons.

Minnesota was able to acquire Jimmy Butler away from the Chicago Bulls in a draft night trade during the 2017 NBA Draft, and along with superstar center Karl-Anthony Towns and Wiggins, the Timberwolves have a “Big Three” of their own to help lead the team back to the playoffs and end one of the longest playoff droughts in NBA history.
