Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota has often been injured this year and his latest nerve injury might have cost his team a chance at the playoffs. The good news for the Titans is that Mariota saw a nerve specialist and he isn't expected to need surgery, only rest to improve his condition.

“What it came down to was just allowing time for the nerve to heal,” Mariota said Monday via ESPN. Unfortunately, I've had several nerve injuries throughout the course of the year, and it just left me susceptible to a bigger injury. And when it came down to it, he felt through time and some rest, the nerve should calm down and it should fully recover.”

Mariota had a consultation with spine specialist Dr. Robert Watkins of Los Angeles after being knocked out of the Titans game against the Colts on November 18th. He suffered another stinger on December 22nd that was the one that ultimately ended his season.

The good news is he has all offseason to heal and next year is probably going to be a make or break year for him. The Titans exercised his option for the 2019 season but after that, the Titans have a decision to make on who will be their quarterback. Titans coach Mike Vrabel said that he has full confidence in the Titans going forward.

“He helped us win a lot of games, and so I have full confidence in Marcus when he's healthy and available to go out there and try to win,” Vrabel said. “He's done some good things.”
