The Pro Football Writers have named Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill as the NFL's Most Improved Player and Comeback Player of the Year for the 2019 season, according to Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald.
Tannehill took over for Marcus Mariota as the Titans' starting quarterback in Week 7.
In 12 appearances and 10 starts during the regular season, Tannehill threw for 2,742 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions while completing 70.3 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 117.5.
He has also led Tennessee to the AFC Championship Game, marking the Titans' longest playoff run since the 2002-03 campaign.
Article Continues BelowOf course, Tannehill hasn't had to do much work in either of Tennessee's postseason wins this month, as Derrick Henry carried the load against the New England Patriots and the Baltimore Ravens, but his spectacular play during the regular season has gotten the Titans to this point.
Prior to joining Tennessee, Tannehill spent the first seven years of his NFL career with the Miami Dolphins, posting mostly middling results. His best season with the Dolphins came back in 2014, when he threw for 4,045 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 12 picks while completing 66.4 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 92.8.
But outside of that one solid campaign, Tannehill was mostly the definition of average during his time in South Beach and never played in a playoff game with Miami.
Now, Tannehill has an opportunity to lead the Titans to their first Super Bowl appearance since the 1999-00 campaign, which is certainly worthy of recognition based on how far he has come since his pedestrian days with the Dolphins.
