The Los Angeles Lakers are making a serious push for Dan Hurley, as the franchise seeks a long-term answer at head coach. If he takes the job then that leaves the UConn basketball program needing a new coach of their own. With that in mind, the betting odds for the Huskies to three-peat for a national championship have already dropped.

At the beginning of the offseason, the UConn basketball team was favored to win the 2025 title at +1000. However, with the ongoing rumors regarding Dan Hurley and the Lakers, those odds have dropped to +1400 on FanDuel. Here are the updated betting odds to win the National Championship next year.

Kansas: +1000
Duke: +1200
Alabama: +1200
Connecticut: +1400
Houston: +1800
Baylor: +2000

North Carolina and Gonzaga have the same odds as Baylor at +2000. So as of now, those are the teams with the best odds to win the championship in 2025. But it's interesting to see that UConn basketball's odds have already dropped considering Dan Hurley hasn't made a final decision yet. It could be a sign of what's to come. But we won't know for certain until the report drops.

Either way, the Huskies should be a solid team next season. They have all the talent in the world. Additionally, if Hurley leaves for the Lakers gig, the UConn basketball program should be able to hire a top candidate. It's a prestigious job in college basketball, as coaches around the nation would love to be the head coach of the Huskies.

Reports regarding Hurley's decision should hopefully be revealed soon. The Lakers hope to make a big move well before the NBA Finals end. Additionally, Los Angeles likely wants to get a deal done before another team potentially swoops in at the last second.

Dan Hurley has found success at every level he's coached. He created an absolute monster during his time coaching the Huskies and the Lakers hope he can do the same at the professional level. Due to his past success, there's no real reason to believe Hurley will fail if he takes on the job in LA.

Not many college coaches have found much success in the NBA, however. Professional basketball is completely different from the college level. So, it'll be a challenge for Dan Hurley if he does decide to coach the Lakers. It's a risky move for Los Angeles but it's a necessary one since the franchise hasn't had much consistency at head coach over recent years.

However, when it comes to Hurley he should be able to find success anywhere. He's been an amazing head coach throughout his career. Additionally, he could be the exact coach the Lakers need to right the ship. If he leaves, then he'll be sorely missed by the UConn basketball program.
